Our Services

The ROOTS Clinic provides ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis therapy)

ASSESSMENT

Our BCBAs (Board Certified Behavior Analysts administer initial assessments as part of the intake process. These assessments may include the Vineland, ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, AFLS, and/or PEAK, in addition to a variety of social and behavioral assessment batteries to gain a full sense of your child’s or adolescent’s strengths and areas of need at the outset of services. The initial assessment also includes a parent or caregiver questionnaire so that we can gain an understanding of your child and identify goals that are important to the family. We complete a record review of all relevant assessment and/or treatment in order to develop a detailed history of your child’s experience across school and previous or concurrent autism services.

After completing the assessments and record review, the BCBA crafts the initial treatment plan, outlining the specific goal areas across social, behavioral, and communication domains to be addressed over the next year.

The assessment process recurs typically every six months, though the BCBA may conduct additional assessments at any time, including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).

SUPERVISION

Supervision is provided by the BCBA and can consist of face-to-face time or direct therapy sessions with your child as well as non-direct services such as review and analysis of program data, progress reporting on treatment plan goals, and instructional planning related to how programs are carried out in daily therapy sessions by the BT (Behavior Technician). Supervision occurs regularly, for example, in two-hour sessions once per week.

PARENT EDUCATION

All families are welcome to participate in parent training sessions with the BCBA. These sessions can happen monthly for up to 50 minutes, though shorter sessions are also normal and can be just as successful as a longer session depending on your needs. Parent training can focus on specific goal areas for collaboration between the school environment and the home environment, though often we find that families want to take a more informal approach. A “check-in style” with your BCBA can work well and allow you to bring any current areas you would like to discuss as well as receive an update on how things are going in our setting.

DIRECT THERAPY

The bulk of services that your child or adolescent will receive consist of direct therapy by a BT. In direct therapy, work on treatment plan goals is carried out and facilitated by the BT. The BTs also monitor their own instructional actions, client performance, and client progress via daily data collection. Progress is charted to allow the BCBA to visually analyze data efficiently and provide feedback and changes to programming as needed. Direct therapy may look different in action from child to child and can also vary greatly across age groups. Therapy can consist of 1:1 individual table work in which skills are practiced with the BT, or embedded practice on skills where the BT is providing prompting and support to the child in the context of their academic activity (such as math class) or classroom activity (such as recess). Often, especially in therapy sessions with middle school and high school age clients, the BT may be faded further away from the client – perhaps across the classroom – providing support as needed and taking data specifically on independence across goal areas.

Why Parents Love Us

To see our child happy, and with people that care about her, is worth more than anything and we have found that at APL.

- APL Parent

APL turned my child’s life around: academically, socially, and emotionally. And my life as well: I no longer dread the phone ringing. I know that my kids are in good hands, and that if ever any sort of problem does come up, I’ll be able to work with the school to make things better. What I say matters.

- APL Parent

APL provides us peace of mind for our family in a safe and supporting environment.

- APL Parent

When we started looking for the right school for our child to attend, we toured everywhere and came up dry. We found ourselves wishing there was a school where ABA therapy and academics were wholly combined in the same classroom. THEN we found APL and it felt like it had been created just for us. Dream come true!

- APL Parent

APL has helped our son regain his self-confidence and improve his self-esteem!

- APL Parent

The APL way is to care about your child in the best way possible while laying out a road map for progress developmentally and emotionally.

- APL Parent

The intrinsic blend of ABA with schooling that has taken my child from not sitting at a school desk, balled up in the corner in a novel, in public school to completing her work and even enjoying many of her academic classes. The value put on the unique traits of individuals and the enormous patience of the staff come in at the top as well.

Limited spots remain available in APL’s K-12 classrooms for the upcoming school year.

If you are interested in attending, please contact us to begin the admissions process.
