Gaining Experience at the Academy of Precision Learning


APL is a vibrant learning site for graduate students completing their experience hours in Applied Behavior Analysis each year. Students in master’s programs at both local and distance universities and colleges are welcome in our setting.

We understand that each individual student brings a unique background of experience and we seek to develop and build upon this foundation through a tailored fieldwork experience. We have hosted students from the University of Washington, Simmons College, Arizona State University, Ball State University, and more. Both part-time and full-time placements are available.

Graduate students completing their ABA fieldwork hours in our program will have access to robust learning experiences and will have the opportunity to work with a variety of learners of diverse backgrounds and skill sets. Students will be trained in Precision Teaching among other techniques utilized in our classrooms.

Students will have opportunities to learn from and collaborate with a variety of BCBAs, educators, and mental health providers. The fieldwork experience at APL emphasizes development of both technical and professional skills to create well-rounded clinicians.

Sample practice skills that graduate students can encounter are:

  • Conducting skill assessments
  • Selecting and writing instructional programs
  • Conducting functional behavior assessments
  • Writing treatment plans and behavior intervention plans
  • Designing data collection systems at the client and classroom level
  • Collaborating within a team environment
  • Conducting behavioral skills training

Students approved to complete their supervised independent fieldwork at our setting will receive individualized training and mentorship from a dedicated onsite BCBA. All students will work within a consistent daily schedule at one location between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
