Elementary School (K-5)

Community

APL's Elementary School's curriculum has a theme and focus of Community.

APL's cohort model for K-5 creates close-knit learning communities by grouping learners based on their clinical needs, academic readiness, learning style, and developmental readiness. Each classroom is staffed with a combination of academic and clinical staff who collaborate to ensure each learner's needs are being met.

Ratio: The student-to-teacher ratio in our classrooms varies depending on cohort size. Ratios are anywhere from 1:1 to 4:1.

Class Size: Each cohort has between 3-7 students and never more than 8.

Students begin their day with Morning Meeting on their classroom rug with teachers and classmates. During this time, discussions can cover the weather, current events, the day's schedule, and class-wide updates while building social skills and a sense of community.

After Morning Meeting, students spend the rest of their morning attending core academic lessons in small groups, based on skill level.
