Our Approach

Instructors vary their teaching methods, materials, and assessments to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities in the classroom.

Lessons integrate tools such as screen readers, speech-to-text software, or specialized keyboards to assist students with physical or learning disabilities. 

Charts, graphs, corresponding visual depictions of words, and diagrams are used to enhance understanding and support students with visual learning preferences.

APL classrooms and campuses incorporate sensory tools such as fidget toys, noise-canceling headphones, or stress balls to help students with sensory processing difficulties stay focused, comfortable, and engaged.

Staff implement behavior management strategies, positive reinforcement, and clear expectations to foster a positive classroom environment.

We provide flexible seating options like wiggle stools, rocking chairs, stability balls, or cushions to accommodate students with sensory or physical needs.  We also allow students the freedom to move around the classroom while they learn.

APL's campuses and classrooms have designated a quiet area where students can take a break or engage in calming activities when feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated.

All of our K-5  classes are co-taught with two teachers and an instructional assistant. All of our 6-12th grade classes have a teacher and instructional assistant co-teaching. We believe this model fosters collaboration between teachers to provide additional support and resources in the classroom.

Our lessons incorporate activities that engage multiple senses simultaneously to enhance learning for students with diverse learning styles and abilities.

Integrated social skills lessons are provided to help students develop social and communication skills.

Our teachers work closely with BCBAs, counselors, and therapists to ensure students receive the necessary emotional and behavioral support.
