April 7, 2020: We wanted to send an update as it relates to the current school closure. As you probably know, on Monday, April 6th, Governor Jay Inslee extended the school closure through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
This is saddening news – but The Academy for Precision Learning is not going anywhere! We are still here to create an inclusive educational environment for all our students. Through the end of the scheduled school year, our ROOTS Clinic and teachers will continue to offer Telehealth, some in-home ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis therapy) by our Behavior Technicians, and remote learning services to our students and families.
Maintaining a connection to the APL community is important to us. We are excited to be providing a weekly remote “Coffee Cart” on Thursday mornings, social lunch opportunities for our students, and online meetings of our Alumni Association.
We will be taking our scheduled Spring Break next week, April 13th – 17th. Our families will be receiving communication from their students’ teachers containing ideas of what to do over break, including activities like scavenger hunts, time capsules, and Bingo. During the week of break, our ROOTS Clinic will continue to serve students 1:1 via Telehealth and in-person sessions.
As more information is shared, we are continuing to evaluate the roll-out of our Extended School Year (ESY) program. We have every intention to continue moving forward by launching these new services during the summer of 2020. Whether these services are in-person or via Telehealth and remote learning will be determined by the direct recommendations from Jay Inslee, OSPI, and the Department of Health.
We will continue to update you as more information is released and hope that everyone is staying healthy. We want to thank all of you in our community for partnering with us during these unprecedented times. Your support and involvement has only reinforced the fact that the APL community extends beyond the walls of University Heights.
